We make to strictly to customer requirements for an era where the styles where the simple, formal cut of the Normans transformed into the extravagence of the Plantagenet era. We do not carry garments in stock for this era. Please be prepared to provide a complete set of diagrams or illustrations of the garment(s) and a quotation will be provided for your consideration. Please allow 2-3 months for research, pattern making & testing, cutting and manufacture, dependant on the complexity of the garment.
There are - however - a number of garments which can be drawn from the Later Medieval range to shortcut this. Obviously, the doublets and gowns of the 12th and 13th century are a world away from the close fitting renaissance styles of the 15th century. There are a number of the more basic garments which saw little or no change across 500 years. The garments below are extracted from the 14th/15th century list and where there are deviations, this is included in the commentary.
Men's clothes
Short Tunic - from £35.00
Strictly speaking, the tunics we sell off the peg are the
shorter 13th/14th century style.
Long Tunic - from £50.00
Not generally an off the peg garment, this is the much longer
version and is cavalry split at the base for mounted
work.
Single Leg Hose - from £30.00
A pair of separate leggings - which tie (or point) to the
Braies or Doublet. In this case, they can be tied to the Braies
beneath the tunic.
Long Braies - £20.00
Authentic comfortable underwear! With drawstring
fastening.
Shirt, Hand finished - £20.00
Neck and sleeve ends all hand stitched, no visible machine
stitching
Shirt, linen - £30.00
Made in linen and hand finished
Cloak, Unlined, hoodless - from £50.00
Cloak, Lined with hoods - from £75.00
Please note that this is not authentic as the Hood is a
separate garment at this time.
Hood, plain - from £30.00
Wool and wool lined, very warm.
Hood, lirapipe - from £35.00
Wool and wool lined, with the classic long tail behind
Women's
clothes
Kirtle - from £60.00
Women's dress, simple close fitting style with cross-over
tie fastening, in wool or linen. The sleeves are close fitting as
was the later style in the 14th & 15th century. There is no
harm in detaching the sleeves or using the garment as an
under-kirtle, over which a gown would have been worn.
Shift, cotton - £20.00
Underdress, neck and sleeve ends all hand stitched, no visible
machine stitching.
Shift, linen - £30.00
Underdress, neck and sleeve ends all hand stitched, no visible
machine stitching.
Cloaks - see above
It must be stressed again that the above list is provided purely for convenience and provision of a few basic garments. We prefer to undertake orders for this era as special commission orders.
